WA: Officer to strengthen ties between police and Nyoongars
West Australian police have appointed an indigenous consultant to help them improve
relations with the Perth Nyoongar community.
NYOONGAR PAM THORLEY will help develop special projects involving indigenous people
and will also help with staff training.
Department of Indigenous Affairs director RICHARD CURRY says the department approached
police with the idea for the new 12-month inter-agency position.
He says MS THORLEY'S expertise will be invaluable to inner-city policing and will help
strengthen the relationship between the indigenous community and police.
