Fed: OPEC gives govt election headache

CANBERRA, Jan 18 AAP - OPEC today gave the federal government a major election headache
with a cut in fuel production that is likely to force up petrol prices.

The international oil cartel is to cut production by five per cent as it attempts to
stabilise prices around the $US28 a barrel mark.

Motoring groups immediately warned the move could add up to five cents a litre to the
cost of petrol and even more with the February 1 fuel excise increase.
